Where our story began
In Memory of Martin
The Martin Gallier Project was founded by Jessica Gallier in 2019.
Following the loss of her Father Martin to suicide in 2017 Jess found herself fiercely dedicated to preventing suicide, breaking down stigma and supporting other families like hers. Jess knew that following this dream would require some substantial life changes so she quit her job and fled her abusive relationship, with a 9 month old Leo on her hip she set about to create a service that she believed could have saved her Dad's life, a project in his name and memory that could help others. And so...in memory of Jess' old man, The Martin Gallier Project was born.
In February 2019 The Martin Gallier Project opened it's doors, the UK's first and only Suicide Prevention, Intervention and Postvention charity. The project offers non clinical suicide interventions on the high street, with no barriers to access, waiting list or criteria. It's aim was to make asking for help for thoughts of suicide accessible, non clinical, timely and appropriate. The charity has recently expanded to Chester City Centre with further expansion planned for 2024. To date The Martin Gallier Project has completed over 26,000 life saving suicide interventions and shows no signs of slowing down.
The Martin Gallier Project is fiercely dedicated to preventing suicides, breaking down stigmas & supporting families in the North West. The project was set up in memory of my Father who took his own life in 2017 aged 55. The one of a kind project has been put together to tackle the areas we found to be lacking during Dads journey with mental illness, the missed opportunities to save his life & the situations that we believed to be be damaging to the family following his suicide.

Who we are
The Martin Gallier Project is the only suicide prevention, intervention and postvention charity in the North West of England. Our Suicide Intervention Workers provide crisis support through immediate suicide interventions on the high street with no barriers to access or waiting lists, thus reducing the need for clinical interventions and hospital admissions.
We provide support to:
Those who live in the North West of England who are considering suicide (over the age of 16).
Individuals supporting a loved one through crisis.
Those bereaved by suicide, who are then at higher risk of suicide themselves.
Organisations stamped as suicide safer and their employees.
The whole community by awareness raising and stigma busting.
We believe that our inclusive, non-judgemental approach, allied with measures to target and monitor at risk groups, will help us promote an inclusive service and contribute to a more inclusive community. We do not have waiting lists or complex referral processes, because we recognise that due to the stigma and shame associated with suicide, people do not generally speak about it and therefore when someone comes to us it is a “window of opportunity” which needs to be opened immediately.
The Martin Gallier Project are extremely committed to breaking down the stigma surrounding suicide and mental health. The team spend a large amount of their time raising awareness and opening up the conversation around suicide.
